The Anthem

Ayn Rand is one person who has had a huge effect on me throughout my life and continues to change the way I think. Most of my friends can tell you how much i love her books and theories so I figured I would share with everyone who might not know me quite so well. As a very small idea of why I like her books here is a roughly 60 page book, one of the first she wrote called "Anthem". I very much stand behind the ideas of this book and what it stands for by itself, forget the author and what she intended by the book. This one is much more approachable than her other books which tend to range from 600 to 1200 pages.

Here is the link to the download page at Project Gutenberg where you can download the book for free in several different formats or simply view it in plain text. (If viewed in plain text scroll down until you see "Part One")

Done

This is so exactly my feel, that's the best way I can describe it. Open the link from now playing at the bottom of the screen and look at this picture while that song plays in the background and you'll have an idea of what my state of mind is most of the time. I don't know why anyone would want to know what my state of mind is like but I guess if your reading this you must have some small interest.

If I had a heart

This is a video I have watched well over 10 times already. It continues to inspire me to think beyond and feel more than just what's presented. I love it's imagery more than words can express and continue to enjoy watching it.

I have been on a bit of a Fever Ray kick lately and have been listening to a lot of the old catalog from "The Knife" and enjoying it a lot. Anyway, most of my close friends have seen this video from me already but I hope they will enjoy it again and if it makes you feel or see anything please feel free to comment on how it affects you.

What would it be like?

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to live in a different eco system? What sounds the animals would make at night? What colors would light up the sky? I love to think about these things and create different visions of them.

In this image it feels like the tree is reaching, trying to change into something it can't be. Maybe that's just my projection.

The little green monster

There is a book called The elephant vanishes by Haruki Murakami in which there is a short story titled The little green monster. I have read this story several times and it has managed to move me in many ways that I am still discovering. It has a way of making you see things in a different way, in a removed perspective that most people rarely get to experience. I cannot recommend it enough and if you get a chance instead of reading it yourself have it read to you, it seems to complete the experience even more.

The book can be found at this link

A professional reading of the little green monster can be found on episode 12/27/09 of the podcast Selected Shorts for free at this link, the episode is titled "A touch of magic"

Why so happy?

The blandness this photo has mixed with the contrast of colors is entertaining to me, sometimes I'm curious why people buy these things, why they put them up as decoration, where this taste comes from. Other times I just don't care. Today... was the prior.

I'll try, please bear with me through any pretention

So I have decided that because this whole 365 project is about me breaking out of my comfort zone and trying new techniques I will also be looking for and sharing things that inspire me to continue being who I am. A lot of that will be short videos, poetry, paintings, music videos and other various little things. Sometimes I have a hard time expressing why or how something inspires me so I think it will be a good exercise for me to try and share the things I treasure with anyone willing to read about it.

This video is one that hits me deep on a level that I have a hard time expressing. It displays something, something about humanity and what music means to me. I love the characters and how they move about their stage, whether it is as simple as a childlike walk or as complicated as standing. If you have never heard of 'The Knife' or by extension 'Fever Ray' then I would highly encourage you to check out their music as it is some of my favorite semi-ambient music, (I realize that that is a very obscure sub-genre) they can flow seamlessly from the background of the room to the foreground of your thought without any surprise at all. So yeah for the second non-photographic post on this site here is The Knife with their song Silent Shout

A man chooses, A slave obeys

I'm not very into action figures/figurines but I do own one that I love. Would you kindly look at this picture? Would you kindly enjoy life? Would you kindly? Would you... kindly? A man chooses, a slave obeys.... Would you kindly walk? Would you kindly sit? Would you kindly? Powerful phrase isn't it? A man chooses, a slave obeys.

Homemade Vanilla

I have done a few product style shots lately and I wanted to put up some examples. I have done shots for people selling items on ebay and such but I also like the idea of being able to help someone create their own portfolio. I'm still trying to adapt an icon for this little business of mine and as soon as I do then I will get some cards printed up. Anyway... None of that made sense together... Congratulations me. Here is today's photo, it is a bottle of homemade vanilla extract and I love how this bottle photographs, I don't think you can find a bad angle on it.
