Games

This is a short list of games that have inspired me to think and be more.

Described by the creator, Will O’Neill as “A short interactive story about love, depression and the corporation.” Actual Sunlight explores isolation and depression in some of the best ways I’ve witnessed. It’s available on nearly all operating systems and gaming consoles from portable to home. Playing it was an unforgettable experience and I look forward to everything he puts out in the future.

The care that the team at Ninja Theory put into this experience is awe inspiring and when played with headphones that support surround sound it is able to represent psychosis in an amazing way. They have a plot that on it’s face seems straightforward and very standard for a video game but you can tell from the very introduction to the game itself that this will be no ordinary experience.

At points you must play the game by isolating different senses in real life and relying on an untrustworthy brain that makes you second guess your own actions while knowing that you have to trust something at some point. The motion capture and acting done by Melina Juergens is full of so much depth and pain that the game brought me to tears more times than I could count. I could write pages about the experience of this game and how it has changed me but it is better experienced through fresh eyes with no spoilers so go now and play it yourself.

This is a character focused trailer that they released prior to the game that gives you an idea of the acting put into this role.
